FLO RETREAT 3-5 September

PARTICIPANTS and STAFF

We had 13 couples show up for the pre-retreat meeting, but only 7 of those actually boarded our bus to the retreat center. This is a continuing problem in all events: people promise to come, but for a variety of reasons, decide not to honor their commitments at the last moment, often not even bothering to notify us. This is common Eastern culture!! I am told it is becoming more common in the West, too. :-(

Our venue is about two hours’ drive from Jakarta (depending on traffic, can be up to 3 or more). It is in the mountains, so cooler than the city. Many of the Indonesians use jackets, but I am just less hot, it’s not really even cool for me! The grounds are beautiful, with a pond and lots of places to explore and enjoy the outdoors.

Some of the committee awaits arrival of the bus with participants, ready to bestow the welcome lei (nice Hawaiian touch!) as they arrive to receive their welcome drink, orientation, and room assignment. Each couple has their own room, it’s like a hotel!
