BACK IN SURABAYA

THOMAS AND HELEN at Reception

I'm back in Surabaya, keeping busy.
I had overnight in Singapore and was picked up by a friend to spend the morning before my flight to Indonesia. She took me (along with her daughter and sister) to pray for relatives - one at the spa at the hotel in which I stayed, he is having rehab after a stroke. Another in a hospital, in a coma since an accident and brain surgery.

I had come back a bit early from Honolulu specially for Helen’s wedding on July 7. Rehearsal was on the 6th. This is the first time I have been in the wedding party, and I was treated like family! What an honor and treat! I was asked to join three pastors in blessing them during the ceremony, and was asked to pray blessings at the reception. They introduced me as ‘second father’ and went on and on about how I was close to the family. Helen and Thomas are now back from their honeymoon in Bali. I haven’t met them yet, but over the phone they seem to like married life pretty well.

HUGH BLESSES NEWLYWEDS

Last week was getting settled in - connecting with churches and friends, getting established with the new school year. I presented the School Focus - TRUST GOD! - at the first staff/teacher fellowship of the new year last Saturday. Workmen came and finished the work on new floor and airconditioning from my renovation. I guess I can consider the renovation almost done, except I still have some accessories to get, including bean bag chairs which I have designed myself and will have made. I got rid of my conventional furniture because my groups sit on the floor anyway and now I have lots more space. We have been having 10-12 for our Monday evening group. I am expecting it to grow, maybe some groups will be added. Somehow I must be in Surabaya a bit more to keep the groups going!

CMC YOUTH RETREAT

This past Sunday I spoke in two churches. Monday a youth group picked me up and I went with them to a retreat center in the mountains nearby where about 100 youth were gathered. I spoke in two sessions: intimacy with God and heart on fire, plus led a workshop on prayer.

As I write this it is Thursday, I will meet with Dela, my 10 year old scholar.
Next week I start travel again as I go to Bali to teach in a YWAM Discipleship Training School for a week (Topic: Holy Spirit) then have some time in Bali to reconnect with friends and disciples there. Ministry in nearby Sumbawa did not materialize. I am still hoping for a trip to East Timor. Due to my visa stay limitations I must leave Indonesia sometime in the next few weeks or I will be over my limit for the FOR LOVERS ONLY RETREAT September 3-5.
