I just completed a 3-day Walking with Jesus retreat with pastors and wives: For Lovers Only.
I gathered nine couples from one of the poorer areas of Jakarta and bussed them to our retreat location in the mountains two hours' drive from Jakarta.
My team consisted of Liana, my Jakarta coordinator, without whom none of the Jakarta ministry would happen, her two prayer partner friends, Ibu (Mrs) Ira, a widow, and Ibu Kim, whose husband Tri also joined the retreat. Fuk Siong and Fang-Fang, the young couple featured in January (First Kiss) also were a part of the team. All of these dear people worked together with fervor and intensity (we all had to, so much to do!) so well that repeatedly the participants remarked on the 'community of love' which we created for them!
A very heartfelt, hearty and public 'THANKS!!' to all of my team!
Among the things prepared for them:
*The bus ride with snacks. FS/FF rode the bus and reported (as did several of the participants) that the bus ride was a blessing as they shared their enthusiasm and expectations for what was happening and was going to happen!
* A welcome package. It was just a small, hand made (great work, team!) bag, decorated, with some candy, small notebook with ballpoint, and a personal letter from me, with a scripture and comment I had received for them while praying. Three said they will frame or laminate this letter - it had great importance and impact for them!
* Lots of games (all with a point an purpose) and exercises, along with very heavy teaching!
* Good food for meals and snacks.
* On the last day, a hike to a waterfall - unfortunately, we got rained out and had back-up activities at our center.
* A wonderful closing ceremony, complete with competitions (Indonesians love it!), testimonies, awards (most loving couple, most changed, most joyful), completion certificates, and a VCD 15 minute video from the arrival of the bus to photos and vignettes of each couple during the time together, and exerpts from sessions.
