SINGAPORE AUGUST

August 5
sorry, no photos in this post :-(
I am now in Singapore - thought it would be a quick visit, but turned out to be another marathon.
Arrived late Thursday evening, Friday visited E. from Bali and we talked, often interrupted by doctors and technicians calling me for another phase for my physical examination. Most of the day was spent in the hospital.
The story:
Originally, I had planned to come to Singapore just for the day, have a few hours to talk with E. The trip to East Timor had fallen through and I need to come out of Indonesia to get a stamp in my passport. It is high season and seats on planes are rare, so the best I could do was Thursday evening. Then I actually was able to talk to E and she said that this week only she was off Friday and Saturday, specially to talk with me. So I began to think about a longer stay in Singapore. Then I remembered my friend in Singapore who had offered me a room to stay when in Singapore, then I remembered her husband is a doctor and that maybe S’pore would be a good place for the eye surgery (cataract) which I need. So I called and asked her to check into it for me.
So I visited the eye doctor Friday AM, was impressed and decided to have the surgery done here. I needed a pre-operation physical exam, so the rest of the day was spent going from place to place in the hospital for the exam: X-ray lab, ECG, blood, etc. E and I talked during waits. Then E took me to visit a friend (also Indonesian) who had breast cancer surgery and will do chemo this week for visit and prayer, then we went to visit the mom of a S’pore girl who we know in Bali, to give a report on her daughter. I got back to host residence at 11:30PM.
Then I was out again Saturday at 9 to visit Helen (Indonesian ‘daughter’ married July 7) who had brought her mom to S’pore for medical check up - foot was hurting (turns out she had hairline fracture and has to wear a cast). Helen wanted me to pray for their Indonesian host who has some major problems to work out. When I arrived at the flat, the injured foot was hurting so much due to swollen foot, that we decided to take her back to the doctor. So while Helen and her mom were in the doctor’s office for 45 minutes, her friend (who I also knew from Surabaya) poured out her heart and story to me.

Sunday has been church and meeting friends with my host, and visiting her relatives for prayer. One is the man in a coma mentioned in the July report. He is still in coma but today opened his eyes and is now in a general ward not in ICU any more. Many stories of happenings when this family prayed for him.

Tomorrow I check into the hospital at 7:30 AM for the surgery. I will need a post-op check Tuesday, and I fly back to Surabaya Wednesday afternoon.
