WEEKEND RETREAT

THE MONDAY EVENING GANG

We arrived after dark, which was probably just as well, since the 2 mile track back to the center was nearly washed off the face of the cliff in parts. We couldn’t see the drop-off at night, but were amazed when we came out Sunday evening.

‘HOOLIGANS’

We were ten together in our rented van for the 3-4 hour trip to a mountain hide-away. The trip actually took 6 hours. Some of the delay was because of the mud flow just south of Surabaya. More than an hour was in standstill traffic where a football (soccer to Americans) game just finished. The streets were mobbed by youth, who aggressively banged on our windows and asked for money or cigarettes. It could have been scary if we were anticipating the normal European scene. I suppose it wouldn’t have taken much of a spark to get this crowd going!
Another 40 minutes was taken by stopping to eat, and probably more than a half hour by stopping for toilet breaks (6 gals, 4 boys). Somehow, gals seem to need to go more often!

More photos, stories coming on my other blogs and later as I find time to write.
