EXCITING DAY

Tuesday was an interesting and exciting day at school.

It started with my giving a meditation in the teachers’ morning devotion on knowledge - you can see the meditation in UNEXPECTED TREASURE - and in the afternoon a tropical storm hit. Water was coming off the roof of the High School like a giant waterfall. If you have never experienced a tropical rain, you have no idea what it is like. The rain comes down so hard that you cannot see across the street.

With this rain came some high winds. On the way home later, after the storm had passed, we went through flooded streets, and past many branches and one palm tree that had blown down. The major excitement came in the elementary school (adjacent to the high school) where a recemtly constructed fascia was blown over onto the roof. The roof caved in on top of teacher and students in the computer room (third and top floor). Injuries were minor, but the teacher and two students were trapped for some time. Lots of trauma!

Water was pouring in, flooding all three floors and creating a waterfall on the stairway. It was just at dismissal time for the elementary school. The storm floods and downed branches caused parents to have difficulty and be late for picking up students.

I am proud to say that basically order prevailed in what could have been pandemonium and panic. The students were evacuated with fire drill procedures which went off smoothly. The big problem was the gathered students waiting so long for parents to arrive (still in the middle of the storm) to pick them up.

School as usual Wednesday. Life goes on, the future is still in front of us. Walking With Jesus means that his promise for our future is what shapes our lives, not our past traumas and disappointments. This is freedom in Christ!
